This telescope is a very good choice for beginners. Many astronomers started their observations from small refractors. There are few reasons why. In the first place, the easy of use and transport, also if you live in the suburbs of big city, light pollution is very common problem for astronomers. Don`t be concerned by smaller aperture comparing to reflectors. Under average seeing conditions a 3`` refractor will usually outperform an average 4`` reflector for seeing details on the Moon and planets, splitting binary stars, and resolving globular clusters. The aperture isn`t so important since the Moon and planets are all brightly lit by the Sun, a large light-gathering capacity is not as important as high magnification within the solar system.
