ZWO Seestar S50 Pro – All-in-One Smart Telescope ZWO replaces the discontinued Seestar S50 with the new Seestar S50 Pro. The system keeps the proven 50 mm f/5 optics and adds the premium features first introduced in the S30 Pro: a 4K Sony IMX585 main sensor, a secondary wide-angle camera, 128 GB internal storage, and full EQ mode support. Everything is controlled wirelessly via the Seestar app on iOS or Android. The result is a compact, 2.5 kg observatory that fits in a backpack and delivers deep-sky images in minutes.
Key Upgrades Over S50

  • New Sony IMX585 main sensor – 8.29 MP (3840x2160), back-illuminated, higher sensitivity and lower noise than the IMX462

  • Secondary wide-angle camera – Sony IMX586 for Milky Way, star trails, and landscape astrophotography with automatic panorama stitching

  • 4-element apochromatic lens with ED glass – upgraded from the S50 triplet for sharper stars and better chromatic aberration control

  • 128 GB internal storage – double the S50 capacity, no need to stop and manage files

  • EQ mode support – mount on an equatorial wedge or tripod head for exposures up to 60 seconds without field rotation

  • 8K mosaic mode – automatically stitches multiple frames for large nebulae and wide-field panoramas

  • Plan mode – schedule your target list in advance, let Seestar work while you sleep

  • AI post-processing – one-tap noise reduction, dynamic background extraction (DBE), and color balance

  • Voice assistant – hands-free control via the Seestar AI assistant

  • Telescope Network – remote control your device from anywhere in the world

  • ASCOM Alpaca support – compatible with NINA, Siril, and other third-party software

  • Active anti-dew heating – keeps optics clear during cold, humid nights

  • Who Is It For? The Seestar S50 Pro is the ideal choice for beginners who want professional astrophotography results without complex equipment, and for experienced observers who need a portable, travel-ready imaging system. With FITS export and ASCOM Alpaca support, it also serves advanced users who want to process raw data in PixInsight or Siril.
Tip from teleskopai.lt To unlock the full deep-sky potential of the S50 Pro, we recommend adding a sturdier tripod with an equatorial wedge or fluid head for EQ mode. This allows 30-60 second exposures and noticeably sharper results. Keep an external power bank handy for all-night sessions, especially in cold weather when the dew heater draws extra power. The included mini tripod is stable but very low – placing the unit on a table or upgrading to a full-height tripod will make operation far more comfortable.
